Tameside pervert exposed himself after tricking children who were playing in the woods

A pervert from Dukinfield has been jailed and forced to send the sex offenders register after exposing himself to young girls who were playing in the woods.

Alan Mercer, 58, asked a group of girls to 'stand guard' while he urinated in the wooded area, close to Lockeyer Park in Burnley, Lancashire last Saturday (March 9).

Having then told the victims he had finished, they then turned around to find him with his trousers around his ankles. CCTV enquiries were carried out by police, and Mercer was arrested the next day.

Mercer, formerly of Astley Street, Dukinfield, was charged with exposure on Monday and appeared at Blackburn Magistrates' Court on Tuesday (March 12).

He was jailed for 26 weeks and was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for seven years. Following sentencing, a spokesperson for Lancashire Constabulary said: "We do not tolerate behaviour of this nature and we will do everything in our power to identify the offender and put them before the courts."
