Tam Courts labels Dundee derby as 'huge incentive' as Dundee United seek Premiership top six spot
Tam Courts has branded Saturday's derby with Dundee as a 'huge incentive' with a top six Scottish Premiership place in their own hands.
And the Dundee United head coach knows there's no room for slip ups with everything falling in his side's favour.
United currently sit in fourth position two points ahead of sixth placed Hibernian going into the final weekend before the league splits.
Courts told Sky Sports: "Yeah it's a huge incentive. It's great to be on game 33 at home. A chance to get one more victory to propel us into the top six.
"In a lot of respects with the game being a Dundee derby, it simplifies it for us, because we don't need to worry about permutations what happens elsewhere. We just want to win the game. We want to send our fans home happy and we want to win the last derby over the season, hopefully.
"The good thing from our perspective is that come game 33, everything is in our control.
"I feel like we are in a good place mentally, physically, the availability of good players, we are at home . Everything's in pace for us to put in a good performance and get a victory in what is hopefully the last Dundee derby of the season.
Although Courts, who is in his first full season in charge of the club, admits he's soon learned how much the Dundee derby means to both fan bases across the City of Discovery.
Dundee United beat their city rivals 1-0 on the first game of the season thanks to an Ian Harkes goal but nothing could separate the sides last time out in a 0-0 draw.
"It's a highly emotional fixture. It will be the same again on Saturday", Courts said.
