Tall, strong and lethal: Bimenyimana giving Zwane's Kaizer Chiefs 'different dimension'

The furthest outfield player on the football pitch on both sides will always be the striker, and despite the manner in which the position has modernised over the years, the primary objective is to get the ball beyond the goal-line.

But does the height of a striker matter when it comes to scoring goals?

That remains up for debate as we have seen over the years that ability and general football IQ come in handy for any body structure.

Speed, strength, technical ability, movement off the ball, work rate, and composure in front of goal are just some of the fundamentals a striker should possess. 

Kaizer Chiefs' newly signed forward Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana, who stands at 1.94m tall, showed on Saturday in his full debut for the club that he indeed has traits of a striker with tactical nous.

However, the jury is still out on Bimenyimana as it is early in his two-year deal with the club, and South African football fans are yet to further familiarise themselves with the Burundian, including his Chiefs team-mates.

On Saturday, he scored a brace and was deservedly named man-of-the-match after the Glamour Boys' 2-1 DStv Premiership win over SuperSport United at FNB Stadium.

Bimenyimana's first goal, five minutes before the half-time whistle, was the perfect summation of what you expect from a striker.

Sniffing danger, pre-empting a scoring position, communication and lastly, strength, something Chiefs have not been fortunate to have since the departures of Samir Nurkovic and Leonardo Castro.

It was the perfectly orchestrated attack by Chiefs' five fresh faces that joined the club this season.
