talkSPORT reporter now hints Newcastle could make summer move for African goal machine

TalkSPORT reporter Alex Crook claims that Newcastle United could make a move to sign Napoli star Victor Osimhen in the summer.

The Nigeria international has been in great form for Napoli since his arrival back in 2020 and was linked with a potential move to Newcastle in the January transfer window.

The club spent the majority of the summer chasing a new centre-forward after signing Chris Wood from Burnley.

That deal was a simple one for Newcastle to do, as they simply triggered his release clause in order to bring him in as a replacement for the injured Callum Wilson.

They were linked with a potential bid for Reims striker Hugo Ekitike but that deal did not come to fruition as the young forward opted against making the move to St James’ Park.

Newcastle were also linked with a potential move for Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata but, again, that deal did not come off.  

And a new claim in Italy from journalist Paolo Bargiggia, via Sport Witness, claims that there was a bid tabled for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

The forward has scored 10 goals in 17 games this season, having netted 10 times in 30 games last term.

The Nigerian, who has scored 10 goals in 18 caps for his country, may well have been the subject of an offer worth as much as €100m (£83.6m), according to Bargiggia.

And Crook thinks that the club will again make a move to sign him in the summer.

He told GiveMeSport: “Osimhen, I think that’s summer interest.”

Yes.

Per fbref, he is statistically comparable to Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez, Liverpool’s Diogo Jota, and, most impressively, Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland.
