Sweden to play Britain for men's curling gold

BEIJING: World champions Sweden advanced to the men's curling final after beating Canada 5-3 and will take on Britain, who saw off reigning champions the United States 8-4 on Thursday to ensure the British go home with a medal from the Beijing Olympics.

Bruce Mouat's Britain have guaranteed themselves at least a silver medal while Sweden remained on track at the National Aquatics Centre in their quest for gold in the men's event after Canada fluffed their lines on the final stone.

Canada and neighbours US will play for bronze on Friday before Sweden and Britain vie for the Olympic crown on Saturday.

The US team had stunned Sweden in the 2018 final to win their country's first Olympic curling gold.

Britain has yet to pick up any medals at the Beijing Games.
