Swansea City headlines as Leeds United target Flynn Downes tipped for England call and starlet shines for Wales

Flynn Downes’ former teammate, ex-Ipswich Town player Tristan Nydman, has revealed his hopes for his old pal to step up to the Premier League and international stage.

Speaking to BBC Radio Suffolk, he said: "From what Swansea fans have been saying, Flynn has been incredible [this season], I’ve watched a few of their games.

"Hopefully, he ends up in the Premier League, hopefully he plays for England.”

A serious ankle injury ended Nydam’s career, after coming through academy football with Downes.

Seventeen-year-old midfielder Joel Cotterill scored for Wales U18s with the last kick of the game to earn a draw against Finland on Monday.

Cotterill has been with the Swans since he was aged just seven and has featured for Wales’ national age group side multiple times already this season. After impressing last season for Swansea U18s, Cotterill has become a regular this season for Swansea U23s.

Flynn Downes wants to help his team become the first Swansea side to complete a league double over Cardiff.

The midfielder had his first taste of the South Wales derby in October and is eager to sample the same again away from home this Saturday.

He said: "It is an incredible occasion, and it’s incredible to think that no-one has ever done the double, but that just tells you everything about the fixture and the rivalry. With all of the challenges we have had across the season, when the fans have stuck with us, to do the double would be very special.

"It’s a chance to make history, and you don’t get many opportunities to do that in a career. I’ll be honest and say I did not realise just how big it was until I moved down, and I loved my first experience of it
