Swansea City financial blow emerges amid potential transfer agreement

Premier League side Leicester City are currently keeping an eye on Swansea City striker Joel Piroe ahead of the summer transfer window, according to a report from Voetbal International.

This comes as no real surprise with the Dutchman continuing to impress in the second tier, enduring a seven-league match goalless run earlier this calendar year but getting back to his best recently as he continues to establish himself as one of the finest forwards in the division.

Recording 18 goals and four assists in 39 league appearances this term, the 22-year-old has been an integral figure in ensuring Russell Martin’s side are nowhere near the relegation zone during what has been a bumpy but enlightening season for the Swans and their backroom team.

Forming a formidable relationship with Jamie Paterson, the duo can easily be classed as two of the biggest bargains of last summer with Paterson arriving on a free transfer and Piroe moving from Eredivisie outfit PSV for a fee believed to be in the region of £1m.

From the outside, many would see the latter deal as an especially impressive coup with the forward establishing himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet with 41 competitive appearances in total to his name this term.

However, the Dutch club inserted a sell-on clause into the agreement they and the Welsh club struck last summer, entitling them to a percentage of the transfer fee generated for his services if the Swans were to sell him to the Foxes or another side this summer.

His contract doesn’t expire until 2024 though, potentially enabling both teams to make a healthy amount of money from any future deal for the 22-year-old.
