Swansea City 4-0 Watford: Cullen and Latibeaudiere add to Piroe brace as Swans sign off 2022 in style

Swansea City signed off 2022 in stunning fashion as they thumped Watford 4-0 to end a run of eight games without a win.

The Swans were the better side throughout the contest in south Wales and went ahead six minutes before the break as Joel Piroe drilled beyond Daniel Bachmann.

Liam Cullen netted his third in as many matches before Piroe and Joel Latibeaudiere added further late efforts as Swansea recorded their joint-highest victory under Russell Martin.

Head coach Martin made three changes to the side that started at Reading three days earlier, and there were some notable absences from the hosts' ranks.

Michael Obafemi, Jamie Paterson and Armstrong Oko-Flex all missed out as Luke Cundle, Latibeaudiere and Cullen replaced Joe Allen, Matty Sorinola and Nathan Wood who all dropped to the bench.

In what was the final game of the year for both sides, the Swansea.com Stadium applauded before kick-off as a tribute to football legend Pele and former Swan Neil Robinson.

Swansea looked to start on the front foot and tested goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann in the opening minute as Harry Darling drilled goalwards from distance.

But, despite missing a host of key players including top scorer Joao Pedro, Watford still possessed plenty of talent in their ranks and should have gone ahead in the eighth minute as Christian Kabasele picked out Keinan Davis who could only head straight at Steven Benda.

In truth, it was to be as good as it got for the Hertfordshire outfit in the first-half, and Martin's men looked threatening, despite failing to trouble Bachmann following a string of impressive deliveries from Ryan Manning.
