Suspended partial stadium closure for Derry City

Derry City has been served a suspended partial stadium closure at The Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.

The Candystripes went down to a 3-1 defeat at home to Shamrock Rovers, but a number of incidents marred the SSE Airtricity League clash.

At one stage a firework was thrown onto the pitch from outside the stadium, while Rovers fans were forced to gather in the centre circle after the final whistle following unrest.

Police responding to incidents near the stadium also came under attack from missiles, with some PSNI vehicles damaged.

An Independent Disciplinary Committee has imposed a suspended partial stadium closure. Should the same or similar incident occur at the next home game, against Shelbourne on 6 May, the sanction will become effective.

The disciplinary committee has also issued Derry City with two fines relating to crowd disturbance and a pyrotechnic on the field of play.

Last week Shelbourne have issued a lifetime ban from Tolka Park to a supporter who threw a pyrotechnic at a match official during the recent clash with Drogheda United at Weavers Park.

The incident resulted in a suspension of play for 15 minutes, with Shels boss Damien Duff stating "one person has embarrassed the whole club tonight".

The club was subsequently banned from attending their away fixture against Galway United.
