Suspect to appear in court almost two years after man killed in crash

A suspect has been charged after a man was killed in a crash in Heywood in 2021.

According to official court documents, David Pakes has been charged in connection with causing the death of Czeslaw Rozal by dangerous driving on August 23, 2021. The 43-year-old, of Lennox Walk, Heywood, has also been charged with causing death by dangerous driving without due care/consideration while over the specified limit of a specified controlled drug.

Court documents state that Mr Pakes is alleged to have had an illegal amount cocaine - namely Benzoylecgonine - in his blood at the time of the crash. He will appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court today (April 6).

Mr Rozal died after being struck by a Vauxhall Astra on Bridge Street. He was taken to hospital but passed away a short time later as a result of his injuries.
