Suspect arrested after man left fighting for his life following horror attack

Detectives are questioning a suspect in connection with an attack in Bolton which left a man fighting for his life.

The victim, in his 40s, remains in hospital in what's described as a 'life-threatening' condition after being assaulted in the street in Bolton around midnight on Wednesday. A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody for questioning.

An investigation was launched after police were called to reports of an assault on Buckley Lane in Farnworth. The street remained cordoned off this morning (Friday), while a blue forensic tent had also been erected.

A second cordon was also put in place at a ginnel next to the row of houses, that backed onto Prospect Avenue. On Thursday a patron of a pub nearby said there had been a fight between several men in the early hours.

He said that someone had been hit 'around three times with a baseball bat'. Police are now appealing for witnesses.

Det Sgt Neil Moss said: "We are appealing for anyone who may have seen this awful incident to get in touch with us as we continue with our initial enquiries.

"A man remains in hospital in a serious condition and while we have made an arrest, our work is still very much ongoing. I would ask anyone in the local area with relevant CCTV, doorbell, dashcam, or mobile phone footage to please get in touch with us - your assistance could prove invaluable."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on via 101 or via gmp.police.uk, quoting log number three of July 11.
