‘Surely one of the best’ - Journo makes massive claim about Spurs star after Etihad victory
Taking to Twitter, The Athletic’s Tottenham correspondent Charlie Eccleshare has lauded Harry Kane’s performance in Spurs’ dramatic 3-2 victory over Manchester City at the weekend.
Tottenham gained a crucial three points at the weekend as Antonio Conte’s side continue to pursue a top-four spot and Champions League qualification. Spurs remain in eighth place with 39 points, but they sit just seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester United with three games in hand.
Two goals from Kane, including a stunning 95th-minute winner, put an end to the Lilywhites’ losing streak, which had seen Conte endure his worst run in more than 12 years, having suffered his third Premier League defeat in a row in the 2-0 loss to Wolves.
The England striker’s emphatic performance and vital brace unsurprisingly saw him receive the man of the match award, sparking huge praise from media circles.
Eccleshare could hardly have been complimentary of Kane’s performance as he tweeted a link to his corresponding article for The Athletic, in which he discussed the 28-year-old’s remarkable weekend contribution.
The journalist said (via Twitter): “Kane’s display v City was surely one of the best by any individual in PL history. But his ambition will only be satisfied if #THFC are back in CL + fighting for trophies. Now it’s up to him, team-mates + Conte to ensure Spurs are doing just that come May”.
Despite a difficult start to the season as the striker netted just once in Spurs’ opening 13 league games, Kane’s performance against City acted as a reminder as to why Pep Guardiola was so keen to sign him last summer.
SofaScore awarded the 28-year-old a phenomenal 8.5 rating for his efforts, with fellow Spurs attackers Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski
