Superior Sundowns' 2021/22 season in numbers

The all-conquering Mamelodi Sundowns squad hoisted the DStv Premiership title under a rain of confetti in what has been a dominant 2021/22 season for the Brazilians.

On Monday, the Tshwane giants had to work hard in their final fixture against Royal AM despite taking a three-goal lead at Chatsworth Stadium.

Downs were determined to cap off a season with a victory and held off a strong comeback from the Premiership newbies for a 3-2 win in the end.

The Patrice Motsepe-owned Sundowns have been in another stratosphere in the past decade.

The club has won 13 major titles since 2012 and has put up incredible statistical numbers to remain consistent in South Africa's top flight.

Sundowns snatched their fifth consecutive league title and a record 12th crown in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) era.

Their victory against Royal AM was the club's 19th out of 30 league matches, the most out of any team this season.

Sundowns recorded the fewest draws (8) with rivals Kaizer Chiefs and have only suffered three defeats this season.

The Brazilians scored 56 goals, their best-ever in the past five seasons, while recording the best goal difference in the league (+36) as they are also the team who has conceded the least number of goals (20).

Sundowns ended on a tally of 65 points, with Royal AM, Cape Town City and Orlando Pirates all having the chance to finish second with 49 points, making the 16-point gap the biggest margin between first and second place at the end of a campaign in the past decade.
