Supercomputer dashes Manchester United's Champions League hopes after Watford draw

Manchester United now have only a 17 per cent chance of securing a Champions League place, according to a prediction made by a supercomputer.

United created plenty of chances against Watford on Saturday but failed to find a winning goal as Ralf Rangnick's side were forced to settle for a point.

The result has seen United's chances of securing a place in the top four slashed from 26 per cent to 17 per cent, as per FiveThirtyEight's supercomputer calculation.

Alexandre Lacazette's late goal against Wolves saw Arsenal claim all three points in a nervy encounter at the Emirates in midweek, meaning they now sit just two points behind United with three games in hand.

The supercomputer has predicted what the final Premier League table will look like and it's not good news for United.

Mikel Arteta's side sit in the sought-after fourth spot, Tottenham are predicted to finish fifth as they book a place in next season's Europa League, leaving United in sixth.

United and Spurs meet next month in what could be a huge game in the race for Champions League qualification.
