Super Rugby Pacific highlights: Brumbies keep Australian title hopes alive with win over Hurricanes
After the Crusaders beat the Reds and the Chiefs proved to be far too good for the Waratahs, the men from Canberra were Australia’s last hope.
But Dan McKellar’s men showed why they are the best team in their country by coming from behind to defeat the Wellington outfit.
The Hurricanes controlled much of the first half and went 14-3 ahead thanks to Josh Moorby’s try and three Jordie Barrett penalties.
Noah Lolesio had got his side on the board from the tee early on, but they received a setback when Len Ikitau was sent off.
To the Brumbies’ credit, they responded well and scored two quick-fire tries via Folau Fainga’a and Irae Simone for a 15-14 lead.
However, after another Moorby effort and two more Barrett three-pointers, it looked as there would be more Australian heartbreak, but McKellar’s charges had other ideas.
The boot of Lolesio kept them in contention in the second period before Tom Banks and Tom Wright touched down to set up a Super Rugby semi-final with the Blues.
