Super League recruitment brings uncertainty on eve of new season with questions to be answered
With pre-season drawing to a close, the real business is about to get underway for Super League players.
But for the men above them - the club owners, chief executives and the coaches - the hard work to get their respective squads to this point has been ongoing for months, with the recruitment merry-go-round once again in full swing this off-season. And as always, there are plenty of fascinating recruitment stories to track as the new season approaches.
It is difficult to remember an off-season that has seen more turnover of playing rosters in recent years.
That is inevitably increased by the significant coaching changes at clubs like Castleford Tigers and Warrington Wolves, where Lee Radford and Daryl Powell have already started to make their mark on their new clubs. The Tigers operated with a fairly settled squad for the majority of Powell's tenure at the club, but Radford's arrival has heralded a number of new faces.
Some are familiar to Radford already, including the likes of Mahe Fonua and Bureta Faraimo. But the new signings that could really catch the eye for Castleford come in the pack.
If Joe Westerman can replicate his form at Wakefield last season in his second stint with the Tigers, he could be one of the signings of the season. The same is true for George Lawler, who was a man in demand before Castleford eventually secured his signature.
Powell has also done significant business with his new club: though he has inherited a playing group with slightly more stability to it.
The big names remain at Warrington in 2022, but they have been complemented by two of Powell's most trusted allies during his time at Castleford in Oliver Holmes and Peter Mata'utia. Holmes, in particular, has the potential to take
