Super League boss delivers game-wide assessment that fans have been saying for years

There's a pause for thought from Ken Davy when asked if there has been a year that has offered as many opportunities as 2022 for rugby league.

It's hardly a surprise, Davy has been ingrained within the sport for years, decades even. Well over a quarter of a century. He has, perhaps more than any, seen it all.

"I'm thinking back because I've been involved in the outset and honestly, probably not," Davy says after a moment of reflection.

"I think there is more opportunity this year than we've ever had. I think the potential that we have for the game is absolutely phenomenal. We have our broadcast partners in Sky who are giving us tremendous support as ever, and along with that we've got free to air with Channel 4 and that's going to be exciting. The teams are really prepared, we've all been through a difficult time with Covid and two years ago who could have dreamt what would happen, but we're raring to go and I think we're in for a very exciting Super League."

Super League is, in some ways, going through transition, not necessarily on the field but rather off it. The obvious is the ongoing realignment discussions but more intangible is a change in attitude at the top. For years, men in suits and their fractured relationships have dominated the headlines. More recently that has become less apparent. That's perhaps partially down to the excitement on the field but also a more harmonious relationship at the boardroom level.
