Sundowns win against SuperSport United to go 14 points clear

Mamelodi Sundowns came out on top in the Tshwane Derby as a goal from Neo Maema secured a narrow 1-0 win against SuperSport United at Loftus Versveld Stadium on Monday evening. 

The first big chance of the match came as early as the fifth minute when the ball fell to Thapelo Maseko on the edge of the box. Maseko fired a curling shot from out wide, forcing Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams into making a big save to keep the scores level. 

SuperSport United made a strong start to the match, as they made it a theme to press Sundowns high and win possession close to the opposition's box. 

Maseko had his second chance of the half shortly after the 10th minute, as he found himself in the box with just Williams to beat, but he failed to hit the target, firing his shot just wide of the post. 

Sundowns grew into the game after a slow start. The home team showed their goal threat from a set-piece as Marcelo Allende made a deep cross to the back-post to find the head of Rushine de Reuck, whose header flew just wide of the net. 

The away side showed their quality and threat with a few chances in the first 30 minutes of the game but struggled to find the opening goal they were after. 

Sundowns continued to threaten the visitors, with their biggest chance coming after the half-hour mark, when Gaston Sirino fired a dangerous ball across the goal, narrowly missing the feet of all players in the box. 

Maseko and SuperSport had a penalty shout denied after the forward was brought down in the box by Khuliso Mudau, with the referee deciding that it was a fair challenge.
