Sundowns new signing Mashego released from Bafana Bafana camp due to injury

Bafana Bafana have been dealt another injury blow as left-back Terrence Mashego had to withdraw from the men's national senior squad on Wednesday ahead of the friendly matches against Sierra Leone.

Mashego recently completed a move from Cape Town City to Masandawana over the weekend ahead of the Premier Soccer League transfer window deadline on Thursday, 22 September.

The 26-year-old has been subject to a move to either Sundowns or Kaizer Chiefs since the start of the year, but ultimately chose to sign for the Brazilians.

Mashego joins Lyle Foster who was released from the squad on Tuesday and replaced by Kaizer Chiefs speedster Ashley Du Preez.

Meanwhile, defender Siyanda Xulu had replaced Thibang Phete (injury) prior to the squad meeting on Monday.

Replacing Mashego in the Bafana 23-man camp will be Msani, who also falls on the books of Sundowns but is currently serving a season-long loan deal at Premiership newbies Richards Bay.

"With regards to Terrence, he sustained an injury prior to joining the Bafana camp," said Bafana team doctor Tshepo Molobi.

"As a standard procedure, in the case where a player is injured, he presents to the national team for assessment and investigations.

"Based on that a decision is taken whether to release the player or keep him within camp, with regards to that, he has not trained since arrival.
