Sunderland supporters wait with bated breath after Stewart Donald and Charlie Methven update

Sunderland supporters are now waiting with bated breath after a report claimed Stewart Donald and Charlie Methven had agreed to sell their shares in the club. The 39 per cent shareholding is the second largest in the club, behind majority shareholder Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, who owns 40 per cent of Sunderland.

The news was welcomed by the majority of fans, but others are not ready to get carried away by the reveal. The report claims it could take five weeks for the sale to go through and there are talks that a non-disclosure agreement is in place.

Sunderland fans have had a fractured relationship with their former Madrox owners for quite some time and when news broke earlier this year that they were still involved at the club, only heightened tension between the two parties. Louis-Dreyfus apologised to fans if they felt misled and both Donald and Methven said they would be willing to sell their shares.

It looks as though supporters may finally be getting what they've wished for, with multiple sources claiming talks regarding a sale were underway. The reveal has been welcomed by the majority of fans but some are keen to not get carried away until the club confirms the sale.
