Sunderland player ratings as Patterson impresses and Stewart nets injury-time equaliser
Ross Stewart scored an injury-time equaliser against Burton Albion to spare Sunderland another home defeat.
The Black Cats trailed to Cameron Borthwick-Jackson's goal early in the second half, but Stewart headed home in the 93rd minute to earn a point for Alex Neil's side.
But the game was of secondary importance after play had to be suspended for almost an hour due to a medical emergency in the crowd within minutes of kick-off.
Here's how James Hunter rated the Sunderland players.
Made a couple of excellent saves and ultimately that set the stage for Stewart to equalise
Did OK at right-back, but no more
Made some important challenges
Looked tired again
Needs a rest, but there is no-one able to take over from him
Offered very little
Made a crucial block in the first half to deny Burton a goal, but otherwise offered little
Good energy but that is not enough
Provided the assist for Stewart, and tried his luck with a couple of free-kicks but could not find a goal himself
Clearly not match fit, and got precious little service anyway
Scored the late equaliser and had earlier brought a few saves out of the keeper
For Evans 60mins. Erratic crossing frustrated the crowd late in the game
For Defoe 70mins. Looked lively and tested the keeper with a late shot
For Gooch 75mins.
