Sunderland boss names three quality features about Manchester United loanee Amad

Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray has outlined three things about Manchester United loanee Amad’s game that have impressed him since his arrival at the club.

The striker has netted 11 times in 35 outings during his temporary stay at the Stadium of Light so far, also grabbing three assists. He netted twice as Sunderland drew 4-4 with Hull City on Friday, with Monday's win 1-0 over Cardiff still keeping their play-off hopes alive.

Amad is now a key starter for Mowbray, who implored United not to recall the youngster in January. The Black Cats have him on loan until the end of the season, when he will return to Old Trafford to try and break back into the first-team squad.

Speaking prior to the win over Cardiff, Mowbray described Amad as a “wonderful talent”, adding: "We know that it took him a week or so after the international break to get back up to speed.

"He's just a good footballer who picks the right pass, who makes the right decisions, who gets the weight of the ball right. For this club and this team we have to give experience to some young footballers to get them used to playing in the Championship."

The Ivory Coast international is enjoying his football in the North East but revealed this week that he already set his sights on next season at United.

“I haven’t shown my best for them [United] yet, but I hope next season I can return and prove my talent,” he said. “My dream is to play regular football at Manchester United."

Amad has already played nine times for United’s senior side, having scored his first goal for the club in the Europa League against AC Milan two months after his arrival in January 2021.
