Sunderland academy duo make deadline day moves to Non-League clubs

Sunderland have confirmed that Tyrese Dyce and Sam Wilding have both left the club to join Spennymoor Town and South Shields respectively on loan.

Wilding and Dyce have both found first-team opportunities limited for the League One side this season, making the majority of their appearances for the U23s or in the EFL Trophy. Wilding spent the first half of 2022 on loan with Leamington in the National League North, making nine appearances for the Brakes.

Dyce has made 16 appearances this term for the Under-23s, scoring five goals and two assists for the young Black Cats. He played all 90 minutes of a 2-1 win over Manchester United U23s in the EFL Trophy, a game in which he scored in.

Dyce has joined Spennymoor until May, while Wilding joins a South Shields side fighting for promotion to the National League under Kevin Phillips. These loan moves away provide both Dyce and Wilding the perfect opportunity to continue gaining senior experience in football with competitive sides both looking to achieve success in the final few weeks of the season.

In the meantime, Alex Neil's first-team remains focused on reaching the top six and securing a League One play-off spot. The Black Cats find themselves sixth in the League One table, one point ahead of Wycombe Wanderers but having played one game more than the Chairboys.
