Sunday sport: Mayo ease past Galway as Football League opening round continues

Allianz National Football League

The first round of the Allianz National Football League continued on Sunday.

Division One's clash between Connacht rivals Galway and Mayo. The visitors came away with the win, with the game ending 2-12 to 0-10.

In the division's second fixture of the day, Tyrone saw off Roscommon at Healy Park, where the game ended 0-17 to 1-11.

In Ballybofey, Donegal's Division Two meeting with Cork, where the homeside took a 1-20 to 2-6 win.

In Division Three, Clare beat Sligo 0-9 to 1-5 in Ennis, Westmeath won 1-11 to 0-10 away to Offaly, Down beat Wicklow 0-18 to 0-13, and Antrim got a 2-14 to 2-17 win against Limerick.

Lastly, in Division Four, Wexford beat London 1-13 to 1-9, and Waterford suffered a heavy home loss to Leitrim, ending 2-17 to 1-5.

Walsh Cup

Waterford have become the 2024 Walsh Cup champions.

The Deise saw off Galway 1-21 to 0-16 at Cullen Park.

Women's Football National League

Cork suffered a loss in their opening game of their Football National League campaign, losing to Armagh a Páirc Uí Rinn on a scoreline of 1-8 to 1-6.

Elsewhere, Meath beat Dublin by 2-5 to 0-7, and Kerry took a 2-11 to 2-5 win over Waterford in Killarney.

In Division Two, Donegal lost to Kildare, 1-8 to 1-4, and Tyrone got a narrow win over Tipperary, ending 1-7 to 0-9.

In the FA Cup, Wolves took a 2-0 win over West Brom.

Watford and Southampton's meeting ended in a draw with one apiece, and Liverpool got a 5-2 win against Norwich.

The last game of the day, Manchester United travelled to Newport County, where they took a 4-2 victory.
