Strip date set? Inaugural 2023 Las Vegas GP could happen in mid-November

The inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix could reportedly happen on 16-18 November next year and be paired as an end-of-season back-to-back with Abu Dhabi, which will happen the weekend after.

The plan is for the race circuit to go past Las Vegas' hotels down the Strip. The last time a Formula 1 race took place in Las Vegas was the Caesars Palace GP between 1981 and 1982, where a car park was used as part of the circuit.

The initial date for the 2023 race was 23-25 November, but the date changed to happen just before Thanksgiving in the US on 23 November.

Should the new date be approved, the race will be the first Grand Prix to take place on a Saturday (18 November) since 1985.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has hinted that if the Vegas race is paired with Abu Dhabi, then there will be no racing in December 2023.

In an interview with the Wall Street investors discussing the 2023 F1 calendar, Domenicali said: "Of course, there are discussions to make sure that the calendar is robust. It is following also the fact that we would like to keep the right flow in terms of efficiency around the world when you consider the need for a calendar to be spread around the world from March to November."
