Street off Wilmslow Road cordoned off with large police presence

Police have taped off a street off Wilmslow Road in south Manchester tonight following a serious incident.

Greater Manchester Police officers have been seen in Walmer Street, off the major thoroughfare, with a large cordon in place. Witnesses say GMP seem to be responding to a serious collision, however this has not been officially confirmed as of yet.

GMP have been approached for an official comment. Officers can be seen guarding the cordon, which runs from Viscount Street to Wilmslow Road, with serious collision investigators at the scene.

A number of officers are in the south Manchester area following the incident, eyewitnesses have said, with the road shut off. The incident is believed to have happened at around 5.30pm.

It is the second time in just over a week the road has been shut off following a serious incident. Last week, on Thursday, March 10, Walmer Street had to be cordoned off following a serious stabbing.

Police were scrambled to the scene at around 6pm where they found a 37-year-old man with knife wounds after he was stabbed by 'four or five men'. He was rushed to hospital where he was in a stable condition, GMP said last week.
