Street brawl video appears to show men brandishing weapons - including knife - as police launch investigation

Greater Manchester Police is investigating a 'suspected assault' after a group of men were seen in a video, some of whom appeared to be brandishing weapons in the street.

Footage posted to social media appeared to show a group of six individuals in a street in Wigan, this afternoon (August 2). Two can be seen holding what appear to be weapons including seemingly a knife and a crowbar, while another two men hold their arms up, appearing to act as peacemakers separating some of the men.

The video appears to have been filmed from a front garden across the road from the incident in Ormskirk Road, Wigan. It was captioned 'scrapping with saws', suggesting that the men were fighting with weapons, while another an account which posted the video to social media platform X called it a 'gang knife fight'.

One of the men can be heard shouting 'move' as the group cross the road, with traffic oncoming. Two men appear walking backwards into the road, one of whom appears to be armed with a knife, being followed by another two men, one of whom looks to have a crow bar.

Two more men with their arms held up and out then walk in between the groups to separate them and appear to act as peacemakers.

A statement issued by Greater Manchester Police this evening said: "At around 2.30pm today our officers were called to Ormskirk Road in Wigan to reports of a fight taking place.

"An investigation into a suspected assault is ongoing at this stage. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident 1923 of 02/08/2024."
