Strathclyde Sirens star Kelly Boyle urges side to pick up results after slow start

Kelly Boyle says questioning performances even in victory can only help Strathclyde Sirens this season.

The Scottish Thistles star, from Coatbridge, says Sirens will always strive for improvement, and says the demands they have as a team and on each other as individuals, can benefit them.

Sirens have three defeats and a win from their opening four Vitality Netball Superleague matches, and while it is still early in the season, Boyle says it could come home to roost later in the campaign if they don’t pick up results soon.

But she says things are going well so far.

Boyle said: “The team has been really good. It’s good that we’re questioning things.

“When we play games, as much as the score-board has been close, we’ve not been 100 per cent happy with ourselves, and that’s maybe a good thing, that we have such high expectations of ourselves and our team-mates.

“It shows that we’re striving for bigger and better things and that’s exciting.

“If we’re always demanding more from one another, especially within a team perspective, but individually as well, we’re always striving for better.”

Games have mostly been close, with Surrey Storm running out 68-56 winners in game one, before Sirens beat Severn Stars 60-51.

Loughborough Lighting then won 63-42, before Team Bath won an agonisingly close game 49-48. Sirens hosted Leeds Rhinos on Saturday and battled out a 52-52 draw.

Boyle said: “It’s disappointing not winning, you always want to win games, but sometimes you can still take positives.

“We’ve stuck to the task for most parts of the games, but hopefully, going forward, we can do that for longer and be more consistent.
