Stranger Things fans say 'what does this mean' as landmark appears destroyed in teaser ahead of season 5

Stranger Things fans have been left with questions following the release of a cryptic teaser that could be connected with the show's upcoming fifth season. The science fiction horror series is due to bow out on Netflix with a final batch of episodes with an air date yet to be announced.

A post on the official Stranger Things account on X, formerly known as Twitter, simply said "excuse our mess..." alongside a brief video clip that appeared to show a landmark from the TV drama in disarray. At the top of a pile of rubble sits a sign for Scoops Ahoy, a nautical-themed ice cream parlour where characters Robin and Steve worked at the Starcourt Mall.

Straight away fans began querying what the post was trying to say. Connie @ConnieR_B asked "Guys what does this MEAN?" while Aime @aimenetflixstan said: "What's happening?? give us something."

Annie @flickertde wrote "You can't just post this and leave, please explain" and Kieran @ktphotography99 said: "What in the world is happening?"

However, some people speculated that the post was simply referring to a range of Stranger Things-themed Scoops Ahoy ice creams sold as a tie-in at American retailer Walmart.

Kay @darlingdyer said: "Watch this be the announcement for the Walmart ice creams."

Similarly, Xandra @Ravens_wife91 said: "If this is an ad for the ice cream that's already been out, you a little late to the party."

In an interview with Total Film magazine, Stranger Things' executive producer and director Shawn Levy said viewers can expect the fifth season to expand on the scale of the fourth series, which ended with an episode nearly two-and-a-half hours long.
