Stormers lose Springbok Manie Libbok for at least a week to concussion

The Stormers suffered a significant blow after losing flyhalf Manie Libbok for at least a week after the Springbok failed his head injury assessment (HIA) in their 28-14 win over London Irish on Sunday.

Libbok was at the receiving end of a head collision with the Irish fullback Ben Loader, who was one of two red cards in the game.

Libbok didn’t make it back onto the field after the 17 minutes, getting replaced by versatile back Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu.

The concussion, according to protocols, means Libbok will be out for at least a week.

"Manie got a knock to his head and failed his HIA," said Dobson.

"A joke was that he failed on the 'language test'. But, it’s a concussion and he’ll have to go through the whole protocol now."

Dobson said the Stormers would be covered at pivot with Libbok missing their Champions Cup final pool stage match against Clermont in Cape Town on Saturday (19:30).

"We’ve got options at 10. We had trained Sacha at 15 and 12 for this game, so it was probably a mistake to put him straight on at 10 on my part.

"But obviously Sacha is an option at 10, so is Damian Willemse, as are Jean-Luc du Plessis and Kade Wolhuter. We’ll be fine there," Dobson added.
