Stormers confirm signing of Cheetahs loose forward

The Stormers confirmed on Tuesday that loose forward Junior Pokomela had signed a long-term contract with the franchise.

Pokomela joined the Stormers from the Cheetahs at the start of the United Rugby Championship on a loan basis.

That move has now become permanent with Pokomela, who can cover any position in the back row, set to stay in the Cape till at least 2024.

The 25-year-old has already made some valuable contributions on the side of the scrum for the Stormers this season and is looking forward to growing further over the coming years.

“It is great to know that I am settled here in Cape Town for the next three years for what is an important phase of my career.

“I have really enjoyed the environment here and feel that I have the opportunity to challenge myself and grow further with the players and coaches around me here,” he said.

Stormers head coach John Dobson believes that Pokomela is an exciting prospect for the future and lauded the player for his work ethic.

“Junior is a driven individual with great leadership potential. He has an incredibly high ceiling as a player and the way he goes about his work is a great example to everyone.

“There are few players who work as hard or are as committed to the cause as Junior is. That is the type of player we need here as we look to grow as a team over the next few years, so we are thrilled that he has decided to make Cape Town his home,” he said.
