Storm Babet: Saturday's hour-by-hour Met Office forecast for Greater Manchester

Storm Babet has brought heavy rain to Greater Manchester and the rest of the UK over the last day.

An amber weather alert for rain - which warns of a potential risk to life and property - has been issued for parts of the region from midday on Friday to 6am on Saturday. A yellow warning of rain is covering the whole of Greater Manchester from midnight on Thursday to 6am on Saturday.

Three people tragically have died as Storm Babet swept the country, causing widespread flooding and high winds which caused evacuations and also forced a passenger plane to skid off a runway. A rare red weather warning is in place for parts of eastern Scotland all day on Saturday.

In the north west, the weather will remain cloudy on Saturday with further outbreaks of rain, although this will be lighter and more patchy than of late, according to the Met Office. Winds will also be lighter than overnight, maximum temperature will be 12 °C.

Katharine Smith, flood duty manager at the Environment Agency, said:“Persistent and heavy rain brought by a combination of Storm Babet and following weather systems means significant river flooding is possible, and localised surface water flooding probable across many parts of the north of England and East Midlands today and into Saturday. Further flooding is expected from Saturday into Sunday in parts of the Midlands.
