Stone Cold Steve Austin: WWE Raw star planned as WrestleMania opponent for legend’s huge return
WWE is planning to have Kevin Owens face Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania if the latter does return to the ring.
Last night, reports indicated that WWE is hoping to have Stone Cold Steve Austin wrestle at WrestleMania 38 in April.
As of right now, it’s unclear whether or not Austin has agreed to compete, but we do know that WWE is going to be doing everything in its power to make sure it happens.
If he does return, this will be Austin’s first match in 19 years, with his last match coming at WrestleMania XIX in 2003 against The Rock.
Austin has remained one of the only Hall of Famers to actually keep to his retirement, but WWE is hoping that changes.
With regards to his opponent, if he does return, several reputable journalists have all claimed that the plan is for the former WWE Champion to face Kevin Owens.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, who first broke the news of WWE trying to get Austin back for a match, is reporting that Owens is the planned opponent.
In an update, we’ve been able to confirm that this was discussed as far back as January, and Kevin Owens is the opponent internally.
This news has also been corroborated, as can be seen below, by Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer Live.
Like Fightful, Alvarez notes that a match between Stone Cold and Kevin Owens has been discussed for WrestleMania 38.
Yes, Steve Austin vs. Kevin Owens has been discussed for WrestleMania.
The news has also been corroborated by Bryan Alvarez’s Wrestling Observer Radio co-host, Dave Meltzer, who has also heard that Owens vs. Austin is planned for the show, if Austin does return.
It’s worth noting that the match isn’t 100% confirmed as of right now, and it’s unclear how Austin feels about a potential return to the ring.
