Stoffel Vandoorne ready to tackle weather and 'interesting' circuit at Seoul E-Prix

Stoffel Vandoorne has said that the Seoul E-Prix circuit layout and the weather in South Korea will both provide challenges this weekend as Formula E reaches its season crescendo.

FE is coming to the end of season eight and as things stand the title is Vandoorne’s to lose, with him 36-points clear at the top of the standings.

He’ll know that nothing is certain in the sport, though, and with plenty of heavy weather around in Seoul and South Korea at the moment, plus the fact the track is totally new to the drivers, the Belgian will be doing anything but getting complacent in the build-up.

Certainly, it’s going to be fascinating if the heavens open during either race this weekend, especially after what we saw in New York a few weeks back, and Vandoorne will be hoping that things are as dry as possible as he looks to seal the deal.

When asked by Give Me Sport in a recent virtual press call, Vandoorne gave some insight on the new circuit from the simulator work he has done, and also highlighted the weather as a potential issue:

“It looks quite interesting the circuit. It’s quite a special characteristic let’s say. Obviously, the first part of the lap is very slow speed, very tight into the stadium section and then the last part of the track has some big straights and different tarmacs.

“From the simulator at least it looks like quite a bumpy circuit as well, it’s not the most energy-sensitive track so the overtaking will be probably a little bit harder, so it makes qualifying more important.

“I think the weather is probably the biggest problem we will have to deal with during the weekend, to be honest! I’ve seen some people that are out there already and there’s definitely a lot of water coming down.”
