Stirling Wolves ready to defend Super Series crown in showpiece final

The showpiece occasion has arrived for Stirling Wolves as they aim to defend their Super Series crown and see the competition off with a bang by sealing the Super Series Sprint.

The Wolves will take part in a second straight final after claiming the Super Series Championship crown back in November – and once again it will be Ayrshire Bulls standing in their way as the opposition.

Tonight’s game will also mark the end of the Super Series era – with Stirling County set to compete at the second-tier National One level next season as part of a re-organisation of Scottish rugby.

As part of those changes, head coach Eddie Pollock will take his final game in charge tonight before moving to a director of rugby role from next season.

It has been a big job from Pollock – who has turned out more than 350 times for County as a player – to turn around a side languishing at the bottom to perennial winners in his 18-month stint at the club.

He says that turnaround provides confidence that his side can head to Ayrshire and beat the odds.

Pollock this week told the Observer: “It’s been a big achievement considering we were bottom of the competition 18 months ago and it’s been a roller-coaster.

“We’ve recruited well, not just in the change of squad, but also in the coaching staff – ex-internationals in Duncan Hodge and Scott Lawson and Sean Kennedy who had time as scrum-half for Glasgow Warriors.

“This most recent spell at the club has been one of the most enjoyable, getting us to the top of club rugby and staying at that level.

“What pleases me most is being the champions back in November and then backing it up in the spring, that shows how competitive we are.
