Stirling boss optimistic after side solves early Forfar puzzle for latest win

Stirling boss Alan Maybury acknowledged his side were stumped by a Forfar puzzle in the early stages last weekend - but is hoping they have found the answers to rise up the League Two table.

The Albion boss watched on as the Loons - currently propping up the division - took the lead courtesy of Russell McLean’s fifth goal against Stirling as the home side produced a lack lustre opening half hour.

But a Jack Harkness leveller on the stroke of the break allowed some breathing room for the Binos and some tactical tweaks at the break saw Stirling pull away through goals from Robbie McNab and Ryan Shanley.

It means consecutive wins in the league for Stirling, who will aim to make it three on the spin as they visit Stranraer tomorrow.

After Saturday’s match, Maybury said: “We watched them last week and it was hard to work out what they do because they use different shapes, they went four up front and pinned us back a little and we didn’t have the right structure.

“Once we get a hold of that and went after the right players, we were good but it took us too long to work that out and the use of the ball wasn’t great either.

“I thought there was a really good reaction to conceding the goal and getting one back. Jack on the scoresheet again which is something we’ve spoken about getting the wing-backs further up.

“There have been games this season where one has become two quickly and it has got away from us, so it was a good response and then half-time gave us the chance to clarify things; we were much more like ourselves from the first whistle.”
