Stirling Albion midfielder happy to find scoring touch as Binos find right blend
Stirling midfielder Robbie McNab is delighted to have discovered his scoring touch and says he’s up for the battle as the race to the League Two finish line approaches.
The January arrival from Cowdenbeath has been a stalwart in the Binos midfield, playing a vital anchoring role as boss Alan Maybury switched systems in the midst of a winter form slump.
That change has led to some inconsistent results – but it was all roses on Valentine’s weekend for Albion as they followed up their win over Elgin with a 3-1 comeback victory at Forthbank against relegation-threatened Forfar on Saturday.
McNab’s long-range strike two minutes after the break wrestled the lead into Stirling’s grasp.
And it was an advantage they never looked like giving up as they controlled the second 45 minutes.
Saturday’s goal was just the eighth in the 29-year-old’s professional career, spanning 137 matches, but comes off the back of getting on the scoresheet in the 3-0 win over Bonnyrigg at the end of January.
“It’s not something that happens very much for me – so when it does, it’s a pretty sweet feeling”, McNab said post-match.
“That’s two goals in a couple of weeks for me, so I’m happy for myself and also for the boys with the two wins back-to-back.
“There was a bit of frustration going one-down but we pulled it back before half-time and getting the goal early doors was brilliant.
“We’re getting into a better rhythm now, the shape we’ve stuck with and the personnel has stayed pretty similar; we’ve had games where we’ve got it wrong but the games where we got it right have gone really well.
“We’re scoring so many goals, which is great, and that makes it easier for the rest of the team, but there are still a lot of areas for improvement.”
