Stirling Albion boss praises squad strength as Alloa win begins busy week for Binos

Stirling Albion boss Darren Young says his squad are making it tough for him as they edged another encounter with rivals Alloa to set the early pace in League One.

The Binos racked up their second 1-0 win of the league season so far, with Dale Carrick’s late penalty sending the Stirling fans home with the bragging rights.

It was the perfect start to a busy period for the Binos, which will see them take on three games in a week – including the awaited match with Aberdeen on Friday and a trip to League One favourites Falkirk next Tuesday.

Young once again tweaked his side to bring in Robert Thomson and the returning Jordan McGregor to the fray, but the gaffer insists the entire strength of his squad is on full display with their good start to the season.

He said: “I thought the boys were absolutely brilliant, we had a few changes and it worked. We were the better team first half and were unlucky not to score with a couple of good chances.

“Every single player was great again, the guys who don’t start are disappointed but they step up and they show what they can bring to the team. It’s a hard one making those decisions but it’s good when it comes off and those guys can come on to help out.

“Against the full-time teams, it will be harder so in the matches against the other part-time teams, those are where we are expected to pick up our points if we can.

“We defended well under pressure, stopping the ball into big Sammon and then bursting forward when we had the chance to go and play.”

It was a nervous wait for the Binos fans as the new efforts to combat time-wasting saw a whopping nine minutes played at the end of the match.
