Stirling Albion boss keeps faith in side after Bonnyrigg display leads to frustration

Defiant Alan Maybury insists his Binos are on the right track despite Bonnyrigg Rose making it back-to-back losses for his side in League Two on Saturday.

The Rose came away comfortable winners courtesy of a first-half Cammy McKinley own goal and Bradley Barrett’s strike just over ten minutes from time.

It was a limp display from Albion, who generated just a single shot on target – with sections of the Binos faithful left disgruntled.

Maybury knows his side must come up with more inspiration near the opposition box, but doesn’t think his side were too far away.

The Irishman said: “It was a freak goal to concede because there was nothing in the game. A long ball into the box from a wide area ends up in our net which I don’t think would ever happen again.

“It gives them a little energy and takes it away from us. They did the basics better and we need to be a little sharper across the board.

“We started the second half well but we shot ourselves in the foot with the goal we concede again and it probably was the case that we didn’t show enough quality in that final third.”

The Binos squad was severely stretched, with just Lewis Milne and a handful of young players on the Stirling bench once again as Erik Sula’s suspension meant another player enjoying the game from the stands.

The Stirling boss hopes the return of some of those experienced faces will offer improvements as the season rumbles on – but didn’t offer that as a justification for his side’s poor performance.
