'Still following him' - Romano reveals Spurs interested in centre back with £60m release clause

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur still hold an interest in last summer’s transfer target on the Que Golazo YouTube channel.

Tottenham Hotspur legend Ledley King has been a leader in praising summer singing Cristian Romero for the way he’s performed for Spurs this season and with the London club set to sign him permanently in the summer, it looks to have been a solid piece of business by Fabio Paratici.

However, he has been the only out and out recognised centre back that’s been starting regularly under Antonio Conte with Eric Dier a blend of midfielder and defender, whereas Ben Davies has spent the majority of his career as a left-back, so there could well be some reinforcements arriving in the summer.

Romano believes that Pau Torres, who Spurs have been tracking since last summer, could be of interest.

The Spanish international was a constant and key figure in Villarreal’s memorable and perhaps unlikely journey to the Champions League final as well as their impressive route to lifting the Europa League last year, so he’s clearly a player for the big occasions.

Romano has reported that Torres does in fact have a release clause in his contract which would be around £60 million when compared to the prices of other centre backs such as Harry Maguire and Ben White who cost £80 million and £50 million respectively, it could perhaps be seen as a bargain deal if Spurs could pull it off and partner him alongside Romero.
