Stewartry Sports Council holds special get together to celebrate 2022 achievement
Stewartry Sports Council held a special get together on Friday night.
With no sports awards held for the last few years due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was decided to celebrate the fantastic achievements of local sports stars in recent years at St Ninian’s Church Hall in Castle Douglas.
A number of guests were invited to congratulate them for their achievements, including members of Stewartry Sirens who won Tennent’s National Division One last season.
The audience heard from Sirens captain Clare Dooley about the team’s success and also the rise of women’s rugby in recent years.
Stewartry Sports Council chairman Davie Stitt also outlined the success of the area’s sporting individuals in teams over the past 12 months.
It was a hugely successful evening enjoyed by everyone – particularly the buffet, kindly provided by Picnic Bakery and Deli in Castle Douglas.
It is hoped the sports awards will return later in the year.
