Steven Schumacher speaks out on leading Plymouth Argyle in play-off bid

Plymouth Argyle will be hoping to try and force their way back into the top six in League One before the season is done but despite the desperation to land a promotion, Steven Schumacher has revealed to Plymouth Live that he ‘hasn’t been fazed’ by leading the club as of yet.

The current boss has been at the helm since the turn of the year, having taken the reins when Ryan Lowe departed for Preston. Whilst Schumacher had been at the club for years previously with the former boss, he had never held the main role before.

Rather than struggle though, he has instead thrived and whilst they are currently sat in eighth place in the third tier, they have been in and around the play-off spots for most of that time. In fact, the Pilgrims are still only two points off Sheffield Wednesday in sixth and the play-off dream is still alive.

There are plenty of teams scrapping it out for those elusive four places though and there is a hope that Argyle will be one of the teams to secure a spot in them. However, despite this pressure to try and deliver the goods since taking over, Schumacher has revealed to Plymouth Live that he has been ‘ready’ for management and isn’t ‘fazed’ as of yet.

Speaking about taking over the managerial role, he said: “Look, as the manager, I know that if I get them [the decisions] wrong or the result doesn’t right way then everyone looks at you and goes ‘Why did you take him out the team, why did you start those two centre-forwards?’

” I get that, that pressure is on me. That pressure was on Ryan previously and I would sit there and think it was his name getting mentioned when I had just as much as input in the decision-making process. That’s the benefit of being the manager.
