Plymouth Argyle produced a crucial win in the ‘Dockyard Derby’ on Tuesday night against Portsmouth in League One action to strengthen their play-off claims.
With games in hand on some of their promotion-chasing rivals, the Pilgrims had a chance to make a statement against their south coast rivals – and Danny Cowley’s side ended up going back home with zero points.
It took until the 65th minute for Argyle to open the scoring and it was the prolific Ryan Hardie who put the ball in the back of Gavin Bazunu’s net and that’s all that was needed for Argyle to earn all three points and climb into fifth position.
There were some unsung heroes on the pitch though aside from the match-winner, with FLW’s Plymouth fan pundit Tom Sleeman picking out two individuals who stood out elsewhere.
“For me the two stand-out performers for Argyle were midfielder Panutche Camara and wing-back Joe Edwards,” Tom said.
“Camara has just been brought back into the team after a couple of games rested and being on the bench, but the two mercifully pressed Portsmouth’s side all night and didn’t allow them to get into their flow at all, constantly running from minute one to minute 90 plus 6.
“They were possibly the focal point as to why Argyle won the game.”
