Steven Gerrard receives clear message over Man United transfer as Aston Villa consider swoop

Aston Villa are said to be "monitoring" Jesse Lingard's situation at Manchester United as the 29-year-old seeks a loan move away from Old Trafford this month.

Newcastle United's move for Lingard is at risk of collapse as the two clubs are yet to agree on terms.

The Manchester Evening News claim United have demanded an overall package of £15million for their midfielder just to join Newcastle on loan as they are seeking a survival bonus.

With both clubs failing to agree terms, Burnley have been suggested as an alternative for Lingard, while the MEN also report that Leicester, Everton and Villa are also "monitoring" Lingard's situation.

But Villa fans have questioned if Steven Gerrard needs the playmaker in his squad given the quality already available in that department already. Here's what some of them had to say on Twitter...

@ : Don't need him thanks.

@ : Why?? Need a cdm.

@ : We really do not need him. We're absolutely stacked in those areas. Reckon this is journos seeing us do business and throwing us in with everybody else following Lingard.

@ : No thanks.

@ : Do we really need him? Won’t he hamper development of Carney or are we looking for a quick fix again? Worries me that pressure to succeed is changing our philosophy of youth development for long term stability.

@ : IMO no thank you.

@ : Villa don't need him.

@ : Absolutely no need for him whatsoever.
