Steven Gerrard could have double Aston Villa problem as Tottenham and Liverpool loom

Aston Villa have 10 fixtures remaining before the Premier League season concludes as Steven Gerrard targets a top-10 finish. The head coach took over from Dean Smith with the club anxiously just above the drop-zone off the back of five-straight defeats.

Looking ahead to the season finale and Gerrard will be hoping to have Marvelous Nakamba (knee) back and in contention ahead of the Wolves fixture on April 2. Lucas Digne will also be pushing for a return from his hamstring injury which looks set to rule him out of the Arsenal fixture this weekend.

Elsewhere, both Tyrone Mings and Matty Cash are walking suspension tightropes. The pair are just two cautions away from having to serve automatic two-game suspensions.

Mings and Cash, who both enjoyed a day at the races at Cheltenham on Tuesday, have both totted up eight yellow cards this season and, should they reach 10 before Villa's 32nd match - scheduled to be Liverpool on April 16 - then they'll both miss two fixtures. John McGinn, Douglas Luiz and Ollie Watkins are next on Villa's list of potential suspensions but they're all way behind on six cards.

The Premier League rules state: "Players who accumulate 10 yellow cards in Premier League matches, up to and including their team's 32nd fixture, will serve a two-match suspension in the competition."

Villa host Arsenal this Saturday before a two-week international break prior to the Wolves match at Molineux on April 2. After that it's Spurs and then Liverpool. As for Wolves, their central midfielder Ruben Neves is just one booking away from serving a two-game suspension. Bruno Lage's men host Leeds United on Friday night prior to facing off against Villa in a fortnight.
