Steven Gerrard agrees with Emi Buendia and makes Jack Grealish comment

Steven Gerrard believes Aston Villa's style and shape is 'tailormade' for in-form attacker Emi Buendia.

Argentine ace Buendia, 25, has started to shine under Gerrard's management and seems at home on the right of Villa's front three, alongside Ollie Watkins and January arrival Philippe Coutinho.

Buendia’s influence at Villa Park is growing with one goal and two assists in his last seven Premier League appearances.

He bagged the club’s in-house player of the month award for January and made his debut for Argentina last week, as a substitute in their 1-0 World Cup qualifying win over Colombia.

Speaking to the club's TV cameras on Monday, Buendia admitted he's loving life under Gerrard.

“For me, I think I’ve found my best shape," he said. "Our style is brilliant for me. I really enjoy playing in this position and this structure. I can only get better every game."

And Gerrard, who was tasked with getting the best out of £33million club-record signing Buendia when he replaced Dean Smith in November, agrees with his player.

“We’ve certainly seen that explosion," said Gerrard. "We believe he’s had a fantastic month (in January). All the players needed time to adapt to us and the way we want to play.

“The good thing for Emi is we believe this style, shape and what we’re trying to do is tailormade for him and his own style. We feel it’s a really good match.

“He’s seen that early on and we’ve had real buy-in from him. He’s a tenacious little character and player, he’s got amazing talent and he’s got stronger and stronger with each training session.

“He believes he can only get better, I have that type of belief in him."
