Steven Davis reveals Rangers experience that might never be repeated after Ibrox whirlwind

Steven Davis admits his stint as Rangers interim boss feels a LIFETIME ago as he explained why he had to accept the gig.

The Northern Ireland legend took over the top job following Michael Beale's sacking as the Ibrox board started the successor search. Following an interview process it was current boss Philippe Clement who won the race to take on the top job. Former Light Blues star Davis took charge of a Europa League defeat to minnows Aris Limassol on the road but signed off with a big 3-0 win over St Mirren in Paisley a couple of days later.

He was in Belfast last month working on his coaching badges as he prepares to take the next step in his football career. He also enjoyed getting the chance of seeing Michael O'Neill and Diarmuid O'Carroll hard at work on the international scene during the March break and he is ready to do it all again during a training camp in Spain.

Looking back at his Rangers experience, Davis told the Belfast Telegraph: "It was an incredible experience to get the opportunity to do it. If I decide to go down that road I might never get the opportunity to manage a club that’s so close to me and such a big club again.

“It came out of the blue but it was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down and I’ll be forever thankful. It does feel like a bit of a whirlwind and almost like it was a lifetime ago. It was really intense. With Northern Ireland it’s a different outlook for me now compared to being a player but I’m really enjoying it.

“I’m doing my badges and having had the experience at Rangers, it’s invaluable for me to be in and around things to see how Michael and Diarmuid work and get involved in bit and pieces and Michael gives me the freedom to do that.”
