Steve Cooper's brutal six-word Old Trafford atmosphere verdict after Man United win vs Leicester

Leicester City manager Steve Cooper has taken a swipe at the Old Trafford atmosphere during Wednesday's 5-2 League Cup defeat to Manchester United - insisting it didn't intimidate his players.

Goals from Casemiro (2), Bruno Fernandes (2) and Alejandro Garnacho were enough to book United's place in the competition's quarter-final stage in the first game since Erik ten Hag's sacking on Monday.

Interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy oversaw responsibilities on Wednesday night and saluted the Old Trafford faithful as he made his way to the dugout before the game, which was met with rapturous applause from the Stretford End.

However, Foxes boss Cooper admitted the atmosphere at Old Trafford wasn't what he and his player were expecting when they travelled up from the East Midlands.

"It wasn’t what we were expecting," said Cooper in his post-match press conference. "It wasn’t intimidating at all. It was good to play in."

Van Nistelrooy is reportedly set to take over the next three games at Old Trafford before Ruben Amorim takes charge of the Reds for the first time at Portman Road on November 24th when United travel to Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old is set to sign a two-year deal with United this week after United reached an agreement with Sporting CP on Wednesday.
