Steve Clarke only has eyes for Kieran Tierney focus as Arsenal star wins the plaudits for McTominay magic

The Tartan Army is dishing out the plaudits to Scott McTominay after his historic double saw off Spain - but Steve Clarke had his eyes on another talent during the wild celebrations.

McTominay's two goals against Spains secured a momentous 2-0 victory for Scotland - following up his double against Cyprus to write his name in the history books. Going into the Euro 2024 qualifiers the Manchester United star had netted just once for Scotland - but is now proving his goalscoring capabilities to Clarke after being unleashed in a more attacking midfield role.

However, it appears that it was Kieran Tierney who grabbed the attention of Clarke after the Arsenal man's vital role in the second of the night at Hampden. The former Celtic full-back's surging run up the right flank saw him shrug off the attention of Real Madrid superstar Dani Carvajal and whip a dangerous ball into the box.

The Spain clearance fell perfectly to McTominay, who thumped the volley into the bottom corner beyond the reach of Kepa. McTominay and Tierney wheeled away to celebrate with Clarke - but the boss looked to only have eyes for Tierney.

Despite the vital strike from McTominay, as the duo approached Clarke appeared to be focussed on the defender after his run teed up the goal. After celebrating with the midfielder, he quickly moved on to congratulating the Tierney for his assist. While Clarke singled out Tierney for special credit - every player earned pass marks for the clash. And McTominay will be able to console himself after missing the gaffer's gaze with his two goals and that he will never have to buy a drink in Scotland again.
