Steve Bruce provides Daryl Dike update ahead of West Brom run-in

Daryl Dike could feature for West Brom’s U23s clash against Nottingham Forest on Monday evening, Steve Bruce has revealed to the Express & Star.

The 21-year-old, who suffered a hamstring injury on his full Baggies debut, is set to be a massive boost to Bruce’s squad in what remains of this season, with the international break appearing to be an excellent opportunity for the young forward to build fitness back up.

Dike impressed in the Championship last time out with Barnsley, with Valerien Ismael bringing him to The Hawthorns just before the club parted company with the Frenchman.

Speaking to the Express & Star about Dike and his current situation, Bruce said: “We play Nottingham Forest at The Hawthorns on Monday in the under-23s so maybe that’s the game for Dike.

“He might be involved at Bristol City at the weekend.

“But I’ve got that in my mind to play him on Monday night, for an hour at least, to see how he gets on there.”

The verdict

With the Baggies seemingly turning a corner in recent weeks under Bruce, the addition of Dike back into the squad could be a massive boost as they continue to chase down a play-off spot.

Of course, it might take a while for him to fully adapt to the competitiveness of this run-in, however, he has all the tools needed to give West Brom an extra dimension.

Sitting six points outside of the play-offs with nine games to go, the Midlands club will be hoping to go into the international break with an extra three points, with a visit to Bristol City to come on Saturday, and then they will be provided confidence by the expected return of Dike.
